A regional model for student innovations systems.
As it is highlighted in its vision, King Saud University strives to achieve excellence in building a knowledge society. As per its mission, the University maintains that such an achievement is to be carried out through the creation of an environment that is conducive to learning, intellectual creativity, the optimal employment of technology, and the establishment of effective partnerships at the local as well as the global levels. According to its Strategic Plan, King Saud University commits itself to six major values, notably those of quality and excellence. This commitment is to be implemented through observing the highest intellectual standards in teaching, learning and innovation. The University puts in perspective as many as nine major strategic goals, including the enhancement of the alumni capabilities (fourth goal) and the safeguarding of a supportive educational environment (sixth goal). Both the National Plan for Science, Technology and Innovation and the College of Engineering’s Strategic Plan are consonant with King Saud University’s Plan in that they all lay a great deal of emphasis on innovation and the development of students' skills.
It is against such backdrop that the College of Engineering took upon itself to establish a student innovation center (Engineering Innovation Center). The Center contains basic equipment for design, installation and measurement in the various scientific disciplines offered by the College, as well as the technical support needed to provide an opportunity for college students to implement value-added innovative projects. The Center is not necessarily linked to any of the curricular activities, but aims to attract all those students who possess innovative ideas and aspire to carry them out, taking advantage of the capabilities and equipment available in the Center, in addition to guided supervision and logistic support.

This brief document highlights the key elements of the EE Strategic Plan which is currently being implemented. The EE Strategic Plan for EE department sets out our aims and priorities as we strive toward excellence in engineering education and research. This EE strategic plan is aligned and falls within the COE strategic plan. The EE department has obtained the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accreditation. The EE Department is one of the earliest departments established in the Kingdom’s universities. The department was established in 1382H (1962). The Electrical Engineering department is dedicated to providing quality education that prepares students for successful careers. Students graduating with a bachelor's degree will have the necessary technical, communication, and critical thinking skills as a basis for a successful, fulfilling and life-long career in electrical engineering. The Department has recently put a great effort to update academic programs and teaching facilities as well. Several improvements in the undergraduate programs include: professional communications course and laboratory, an improved graduation project, courses in selected topics of current interest such as mobile communications, computer networks and information security are presently offered. Smart class rooms and meeting rooms, R & D laboratories, such as the Erickson lab, major laboratory software and hardware upgrading, such as the electrical power and the high voltage labs, are steps to upgrade the department facilities.
Vision The vision of the Department of Electrical Engineering is to contribute to improving the well-being of the society by promoting the Electrical Engineering profession through providing well qualified Electrical Engineers who can perform and manage, learn and accumulate experience, respond to change, create and contribute to knowledge, and provide innovative products and services.
Mission The mission of the Department of Electrical Engineering is to provide an excellent and comprehensive education in the field of electrical engineering. We shall be amongst the best in the region in providing quality education. Our distinctive program environment and facilities will help our students to excel in their education and will service the society through innovative research solutions. We shall invoke the desire and ability of life-long learning in our graduates for pursuing successful career in engineering and postgraduate studies.
Program Educational Objectives (PEO)
Goals In order to accomplish the EE PEOs, the following goals should be achieved: 1- Provide well-tailored and progressive sequence of subjects in which emphasis is placed on sound fundamentals of engineering principles. 2- Emphasize on the application of science and mathematics in the core courses. 3- Utilize modern teaching software tools and laboratory equipment in engineering analysis and design. 4- Emphasize on reasoning and application of knowledge in problem solving and self-reliance. 5- Apply engineering concepts & principles in multi-disciplinary surroundings, projects and teamwork. 6- Promote the effective oral and written communications skills through reports and projects. 7- Emphasize on professional, cultural, ethical and community responsibilities through trainings. 8- Keep students aware of the contemporary and global issues by continuously providing them with current information. 9- Keep students aware of safety issues related to different engineering topics and the impact of it on the environment. 10- Emphasize on importance of life-long learning. 11- Empower and foster an environment to encourage the department research. 12- Select qualified faculty members who are up-to-date with industrial and community issues, and who are active in conducting consultations, participating in seminars, conferences and short courses.
