ISO 9001 is a general international standard for quality management that contains standards for performing coordinated activities to direct and control an organization with regard to quality. The standards of this specification are based on eight basic concepts through which it is ensured that the organization effectively manages the quality of its inputs, operations, and outputs. It should be noted that all ISO 9001 certified institutions are subject to periodic monitoring by donors in order to ensure the continuity of adherence to the standards of the specification and to ensure continuous development and improvement processes within the institution.
College preparations for obtaining the ISO 9001-2008 certificate
First - The College of Engineering formed an executive working group headed by the Vice Dean for Development and Quality, with the membership of the Head of the Development and Quality Unit (the administration representative for the quality management system) and a group of administrative and academic members to participate in the advisory team assigned by the university, in order to qualify the college’s administrative work systems in line with the requirements of the ISO specification. 2008: 9001. The college team has prepared a quality management system, which is considered one of the most important elements to be relied upon when conducting an external audit and awarding the certificate by the awarding body. This system contains a policy, guide, and quality objectives for the college. It also includes work procedures, models and illustrations, in addition to the organizational structure and job description of the college's administrative leaders.
The team completed the stages of the qualification plan laid down in approximately two semesters, since the first semester of 1428/1429 AH. The college obtained this accreditation on Thursday, 19 Jumada al-Awwal 1430 AH corresponding to May 14, 2009 AD. The company awarding the certificate was the French company Veritas Bureau. It should be noted that the college has benefited greatly from the application of the requirements of the international standard ISO 9001-2008, as the college has standard administrative procedures that are binding for all administrative and academic processes, which are the pillars of the applied quality management system, in addition to a mechanism for analyzing Monitoring the results of customer satisfaction measurement questionnaires for use in all satisfaction measurement questionnaires for all college units.
And also activating the means of self-review, methods of organized teamwork, and tools for continuous improvement, which are required by the process of maintaining this accreditation, in order to activate its various administrative plans and development ambitions.
Second - The Vice Dean for Development and Quality has formed an executive team headed by the Vice Dean for Development and Quality, with the membership of the head of the development and quality unit in the faculty and representatives of the various departments and units of the faculty’s administration to equip the faculty units to renew the certificate of conformity with the international standard ISO 9001-2008. The committee has amended the quality policy, printed it, prepared it and placed it in the appropriate places in the offices and corridors of the college buildings. And the college is ready to renew the certificate and obtain it for the second time.
Thus, the college units are ready to visit the Veritas Bureau auditors to grant the college the ISO 9001 certificate for the second time, by reviewing the units’ procedures, documenting them, surveying the opinions of the beneficiaries and making the internal audit report. The team of the awarding company Veritas Bureau was visited to conduct the audit and to grant the college the ISO 2008/9001 certificate for the second time on Tuesday 24/12/2013 AD. The company agreed to grant the college the certificate for the second time after ensuring the effectiveness of the application of the quality management system in the college.
College preparations for obtaining the ISO 9001-2015 certificate
In the first semester of the academic year 1438/1439 AH, the college began preparations for the transition to the fifth version of the international standard ISO 9001-2015. This version of the ISO specification contained many and influential changes, the most important of which was that all procedures became based on thinking based on risk management and taking into account All elements of the context of the institution, in addition to relying on performance indicators to evaluate achievement, determine internal and external influences, and how to deal with them. The college has formed a committee for this purpose headed by the Vice Dean for Development and Quality, with the membership of the head of the development and quality unit in the college and representatives of the college’s agencies, academic departments and administrative units. ISO Standard Fifth Edition. The college is now ready for audits, visiting the donor company, and arranging the procedures for the visit, which will take place through the university.
