Abstract:

The talk emphasizes the need for optimal decision making in energy, industry, and logistics applications, and makes the case that operations research expertise can be a key driver for realizing the Kingdom’s 2030 vision. A few examples are shown for electricity market reform, heat exchanger network design, plant utilities operations and design, facility location, and scheduling of product loading to ships. The talk also covers the role of new technologies and how they can be used to make the Kingdom’s existing industries more competitive, introduce new industries, and expand our value chains.

 

 

>>> IE Representation at the IEOM Conference on 26-29  Nov. 2019

A PhD scholar "Eng. Wadea"  represented the Industrial Engineering Department – King Saud University, at the First GCC International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, November 26-29 November 2019. The primary theme of this conference was the role of Industrial Engineering in the realization of Saudi Vision 2030. The research paper titled “Design the support structures for fused deposition modeling 3D printing”, was discussed in this conference. This paper was also co-authored by Eng. Syed Hammad Mian and Dr. Hisham Alkhalefah. This work has studied the influence of different support structures on building time, material utilization, and overhang surface deformation. The primary objective was the selection of an appropriate strategy for efficacious and economical generation of overhang surfaces in fused deposition modeling. The paper was awarded as the Best Track Paper in industrial and manufacturing track.

A visit was organized by The Industrial Engineering Club to Flynas headquarters and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Wednesday 10 Safar 1441H. The visit started at 9:30 pm at the company's headquarters and a presentation of the company's departments along with its role and tasks, as well as the role of the company’s industrial engineer; taking into consideration the improvement in service efficiency of and operations management as well as aircraft maintenance and reliability. Afterwards, the headed to King Khalid International Airport to complete the visit in cooperation with Riyadh airports. The workflow of Terminal 2 was observed at the airport, passengers waiting lines are organized, as well as the baggage collection line presentation and how to inspect it through automatic control systems. Afterwards, the club went to the control center in the flight yard to understand the work mechanism and how take-offs and landing operations are continuously scheduled. The Industrial Engineering Department would like to sincerely thank Flynas employees for their efforts in facilitating this visit, as well as for Riyadh airports for facilitating all procedures and the induction tour, which took place especially in the heart of the airport area.

ALOBAIKAN Factory visit by IE students on 25 September, 2019

 A group of 6 IE students visited Al Obaikan factory located at Industrial Zone-2, Riyadh. The objective of this visits was to learn more about Al Obaikan factory processes and how the industrial engineering principles are being implemented in the real world business processes. Also the Al Obaikan represented discussed how the quality control methods and occupational health and process safety procedures are being implemented in the factory.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ALFANAR Factory visit by IE students on 18 September, 2019

 A group of 8 IE students visited ALFANAR factory located at the Industrial zone 2; Riyadh. The objective of this visits is to learn more about ALFANAR factory process and how the industrial Engineers are contributing in the real world business processes. This field visit was conducted on 18 September start at 10 am and finished at 1 pm.

PEPSICO Factory visit by IE students on September 11, 2019

 In order to enhance the knowledge and the learning skills for the students, IE students PepsiCo factory located at the Industrial zone 2; Riyadh. The objective of this visits is to learn more PepsiCo manufacturing process and how the real world processes works. This field visit was conducted on Wednesday 11 September start at 11 am and finished at 3 pm with 20 student participant.
