Abstract:
The talk emphasizes the need for optimal decision making in energy, industry, and logistics applications, and makes the case that operations research expertise can be a key driver for realizing the Kingdom’s 2030 vision. A few examples are shown for electricity market reform, heat exchanger network design, plant utilities operations and design, facility location, and scheduling of product loading to ships. The talk also covers the role of new technologies and how they can be used to make the Kingdom’s existing industries more competitive, introduce new industries, and expand our value chains.
>>> IE Representation at the IEOM Conference on 26-29 Nov. 2019
A PhD scholar "Eng. Wadea" represented the Industrial Engineering Department – King Saud University, at the First GCC International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, November 26-29 November 2019. The primary theme of this conference was the role of Industrial Engineering in the realization of Saudi Vision 2030. The research paper titled “Design the support structures for fused deposition modeling 3D printing”, was discussed in this conference. This paper was also co-authored by Eng. Syed Hammad Mian and Dr. Hisham Alkhalefah. This work has studied the influence of different support structures on building time, material utilization, and overhang surface deformation. The primary objective was the selection of an appropriate strategy for efficacious and economical generation of overhang surfaces in fused deposition modeling. The paper was awarded as the Best Track Paper in industrial and manufacturing track.
