Mechanical Engineering has been the leading specialization in engineering sciences since the beginning of mankind forming being the main driver in design and technology of 70% of all modern industrial applications. Mechanical Engineers have been leaders in the discovery of knowledge and new technologies, whether through innovation in vehicular design, flight and spaces sciences, smart robotic systems, advanced medical equipment, energy systems, or whether it is through research to find new methods and operations to produce advanced materials, nano equipment and smart program applications and clean energy.
The Mechanical Engineering Department at King Saud University is considered one of the earliest engineering departments in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Arabian Gulf. The Mechanical Engineering program has been designed according to the International Standards and engineering education rules to prepare its graduate to work in State and Private sectors. The Department is known for the strength of its scientific program at the various University levels where its BSc program provides a solid engineering background in the first three years. A variety of elective engineering courses are available at the fourth year that allow the student to choose between various specializations in engineering materials, mechanical design, advanced manufacturing, control, robotics, mechatronics, vibration, thermodynamics, heat transfer, air-conditioning and integrated thermal systems.
Known for its vitality, the Department is keen on attracting distinguished Faculty members to retain its high graduate's levels from undergraduate and postgraduate courses and to protect its high scientific levels achieved by many of its current Faculty members in innovation and local, regional and international awards.
The Department has managed to provide levitated educational levels for future engineers through curriculum innovations, newly modernized laboratories and leading research. This will allow the Department to provide future engineering leaders for the various employment sectors. It will also allow the Department to attract the best its graduating students to join it as members of Faculty and to its higher education scholarship programs abroad which is key to our success.
