Eng. Tarek Alkasabi Award for Excellence in Civil Engineering

-      Introduction

The Eng. Tarek Alkasabi Award for Excellence in Civil Engineering is one of the prestigious honorary awards in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was launched in 2015 through the generous support of Eng. Tarek bin Othman Alkasabi. The award, with a total value of SAR 245,000 distributed equally across the seven branches of civil engineering, aims to honor researchers who have made outstanding contributions in various fields of civil engineering. The award is managed by the Department of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering, King Saud University.

-      About the Award Sponsor

Eng. Tarek Othman Alkasabi graduated from the civil engineering department at King Saud University in 1976. His professional journey includes:

• Project Engineer at Kra company      (1976–1977)

• Project Manager at Kra company      (1978–1981)

• Vice President at Kra company      (1981–1988)

• General Manager at Makkah      Construction & Development Co. (1988–1990)

• CEO of Dallah Hospital      (1990–1994)

• Managing Director of Dallah      Health Services Co. (1994–1995), later Chairman

The award recognizes outstanding research across all major disciplines of civil engineering, including:

• Surveying Engineering

-      Terms and Conditions

• The applicant must be the first author.

• At least 50% of the authors must be affiliated with a Saudi      institution or organization (exceptions for Saudi scholarship students      abroad).

• The research topic must align with the selected branch, and align      with the applicant’s specialization.

• The applicant must not have won the Alkasabi award as a first author      in the past two year.

• The submitted research must not have previously won this award or      any other award, nor be under consideration for another award.

• The research must be published in a peer-reviewed journal indexed in      ISI, with the publication date in 2022 or later.

Note: The applicant can’t submit more than one research paper.

-      Evaluation Criteria

Submissions are evaluated based on the following criteria:

• National impact and relevance to civil engineering priorities in      Saudi Arabia.

• Journal classification in global recognized indices.

• Journal’s Impact Factor (latest release).

• Number of citations the research has received.

-      Award Value

Total value: SAR 245,000, distributed as follows:

• Best research in Structural Engineering: SAR 35,000

• Best research in Construction Engineering: SAR 35,000

• Best research in Environmental Engineering: SAR 35,000

• Best research in Transportation Engineering: SAR 35,000

• Best research in Water Resources Engineering: SAR 35,000

• Best research in Geotechnical Engineering: SAR 35,000

• Best research in Surveying Engineering: SAR 35,000

Notes:

-       The applicant is honored with a commemorative plaque, while the financial award is shared among all winning team members.

-       If submissions in a particular field do not meet the eligibility standards, the award for that field may be withheld and granted instead to the second-best paper across all fields.

-      Award Management

The Department of Civil Engineering at King Saud University oversees the award, including regulation review and scientific committee nomination.

-      Scientific Committee

The Scientific Committee serves as the organizing body of the award, based in the Department of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering, King Saud University.

The current committee is composed of the following members:

-      Annual Ceremony

The annual award ceremony is held every December at King Saud University in Riyadh, fully sponsored by the award patron. The award is presented to the applicant only, with the patron’s presence. Winners are notified one month in advance.

This form must be completed electronically by August 31, 2025, using the official email address of applicant, and must include:

·       PDF copy of the published paper.

·       PDF of the applicant’s brief CV.
