Theses Title : STABILIZATION OF JIZAN SABKHA SOIL USING CEMENT AND CEMENT KILN DUST,2007

ABSTRACT
The sabkha soil is a type of soil, which has complicated construction problems such as large concentration of salts, increasing compressibility, and reducing shear strength, and other associated problems.

Since Saudi Arabia has a large number of sabkha's, covered a wide areas and take essential geographical positions. Therefore, it is important to search for proper technique to stabilize and improve the sabkha properties.

Jizan city is situated on the south west coast of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and a black gray silty sand sabkha's are covered all vast areas around the city.

In the other hand, there were enormous quantities of industrial wastes generated annually in Saudi Arabia .Saudi's Portland cement industry now produces about 1.2 million tons of kiln dust annually, and will increase in future as increasing of demand for Portland cement. Several stabilization techniques have been used to stabilize and improve the sabkha properties , but improvement of sabkha with addition of cement is the most generally and successfully used , However, the high cost of cement motivate to search for proper alternative stabilizer material with low or free cost , like cement kiln dust ( CKD ) for sabkha stabilization.

This search utilized laboratory testing to evaluate the feasibility of using CKD generated as an industrial by – product produced by Southern Saudi Company in Jizan as a cementitious material for stabilization of sabkha soil from Jizan .Tests were conducted to evaluate engineering properties of sabkha soil treated with different percent of cement, CKD, combination of CKD + cement under the effect of curing time and conditions.

Analysis of tests results were tabulated and curves were drown and compared , then , low cement content mixture ranged and selected for satisfying all requirements and specifications . Last, this study was conducted on Jizan silty sand sabkha soil, the results should be considered, and be careful when they used in other sabkha soil investigations.
